I’m an oceanside dweller in the Bay Area, but I’ve also had various family members who had their own special relationships with the ocean – my grandma Meche who would swim out to the anchored boats in Chimbote; my uncle Claus who obsessively surfed at Lima’s beaches; and my dad who loved the beach and toted our family of 5 to beaches along California and Baja. Lizzy al Toque is a Peruvian American vinyl selector & DJ based in the Bay Area. She digs in Peru’s hidden record shops and works hard to bring her audiences something they haven’t heard. Collecting vinyl since 2011, Lizzy al Toque’s sound is a tropical blend of chicha, cumbia, and Latin psych & surf rock. You'll find Lizzy spinning venues big and small in San Francisco and Oakland on her own and with vinyl collective Chulita Vinyl Club. Most recently, she participated in a two week artist’s residency in which she spun Peruvian vinyl throughout Brooklyn, collaborating with other selectors and collectors along the way.
