“I wanted to take the CVC fam on a walk with me through the streets of Lima, its gray, winter sky of July. We will cross the muffled sound of packed streets, suddenly cleared by one of these voices coming out of a bus, or a shop. This 45 rpm Peruvian cumbia mix brings the love songs, work songs, and hopes of a whole Peruvian generation. I dedicate this hour to them and to workers from all backgrounds. These sounds praise all Indigenous heritages (signaled in Picaflor de los Andes “Carrito Verde amarillo”), honors their tenacity, and cherishes Peruvian melodies and creativity. ”

Ana Cecilia Calle (LaPhDj) is a publisher, writer, and sound enthusiast based in Austin, TX. She holds a PhD in Latin American Literatures and Cultures from UT Austin, and is a founding member of Himpar editores, a Colombian indie press. She co-authored El Bajo Alberti, a children’s picture book with Dipacho, published in 2020 in Colombia and Chile.
